Below you will find our weekly teaching and learning summary to find out how we develop and enrich your child's teaching and learning whilst they are with us.

Week ending What we have been learning about
13/6/25 We've had a fun-filled and active week in LAN class! In PE, the children have been busy practising for our upcoming Sports Day, which takes place next Wednesday. They’ve shown great enthusiasm and team spirit as they prepare for the big day.
One of the highlights of the week was our trip to the Kids’ Fun Day. The children had an amazing time enjoying the bouncy castles, meeting farmyard animals, getting their faces painted, holding owls, dancing, and, of course, tucking into lots of tasty food. It was a joyful day filled with laughter and adventure. In cooking, we made refreshing fruit cocktails. This activity also tied into our current topic of repeated patterns, as the children carefully arranged their fruit pieces in colourful and creative sequences. We hope you all enjoy the warm weekend and have a wonderful Father’s Day if you are celebrating. Thank you for your continued support - we’re looking forward to another exciting week ahead!
6/6/25 We've had a lovely start to the half term, and it's been great to see the children come back refreshed and ready to learn. This week in English, we've been reading Goldilocks and the Three Bears. The children really enjoyed taking part in role play, sequencing the story, and acting it out together – it was lovely to see them so engaged. In Maths, we've been learning all about sharing equally. The children have made great progress through practical activities and group work. For Science, we’ve started exploring shadows. Using torches and shadow puppets, the children began investigating how shadows are made – lots of curiosity and excitement! We’re really proud of how well the children have settled back in. 23/5/25 This week in the LAN Centre, the children have been learning about sharing in Maths by using real-life scenarios, such as sharing food with their teddy bears. In English, we began exploring fairytales with the story Cinderella, which sparked lots of interest and discussion. For Art and DT, the children enjoyed creating their own palaces and decorating crowns linked to the story. In PE, they are becoming more confident with balancing and climbing activities. Bucket Time has been a big hit this week, encouraging great focus and participation. Our sound of the week was ‘ch’, and the children have been practising identifying it in different words and activities. We wish you all a lovely and relaxing half term!
16/5/25 This week in The LAN Centre, the children have been enjoying the story of Dylan's Amazing Dinosaurs – The Tyrannosaurus Rex. Using Colourful Semantics, they have been building full sentences to describe scenes and characters from the story. It’s been wonderful to see their confidence grow in speaking and sentence construction.
To bring the story to life, we’ve had a fantastic time in sensory role-play, pretending dinosaurs still walk amongst us! The children have also been learning to name different types of dinosaurs, showing great curiosity and enthusiasm.
In baking, the children made delicious dinosaur biscuits, which were a huge hit! Over in Maths, we've been exploring patterns using 2D shapes and building blocks – a fun and hands-on way to develop early mathematical thinking.
We are also very proud of the continued progress the children are making with their speech and language targets. Their efforts and growing confidence are a joy to see.

9/5/25 It’s been another exciting week in The LAN Centre, filled with hands-on learning and creative exploration. In Maths, the children have been developing their understanding of numbers through the concept of 1 more and 1 less. In English, we explored the engaging story The Teeny-Weeny Tadpole Story, using it as inspiration for wonderful arts and crafts activities where the children created their own versions of the characters.
We’ve also seen fantastic progress in fine motor skills, with activities like threading and cutting helping the children become more confident and independent. In Cooking, the class worked together to prepare a delicious fruit salad, building skills in food handling and teamwork. Our Tesco trip was another great success, supporting real-world learning and communication.
In Science, we continued to build on our learning about the life cycle of animals, linking them closely to the characters in our class story. The children have shown great curiosity and enthusiasm as they deepen their understanding of the natural world.
We’re proud of all their hard work and can’t wait for more exciting learning next week!
2/5/25 We've had a wonderful week at the LAN Centre, making the most of the beautiful weather by taking much of our learning outside. In English, the children enjoyed the story The Rainbow Fish, using colourful semantics to answer questions and talk about the characters and events. They also got creative in arts and crafts, making their own colourful animals inspired by the story. In Maths, we’ve been working on numbers up to 20, with lots of fun activities focused on matching quantities to numerals. Phonics has been a highlight, with plenty of practice on initial sounds, helping the children build their early reading skills. Our Science topic this week explored the lifecycle of a  butterfly and the children were fascinated to learn about each stage of development. We also had another successful shopping trip to Tesco, where the children helped buy ingredients to make their own delicious fruit pastries. It’s been a joyful and productive week—have a lovely weekend! 
25/4/25 The LAN Centre has had a lovely first week back! It’s been a joy listening to the children share their Easter holiday adventures. In Maths, we have been focusing on numbers to 15, using practical activities to build confidence and understanding. In English, we began exploring the story Errol’s Garden, which has sparked some great discussions and imaginative thinking. Our Science topic this term is the life cycle of animals, and the children have shown lots of curiosity and enthusiasm. We’ve also continued our work on prepositional language, using fun games and activities to help the children understand words like under, next to, and behind.
4/4/25 What a fantastic and busy final week of term we’ve had in the LAN Centre!
In English, the children have been working hard on their phonics and letter formation, making great progress in their writing skills. In Maths, they have been learning about 3D shapes, using them to create wonderful pictures.
To celebrate the season, the children enjoyed Easter-themed arts and crafts, getting creative with festive activities. With the beautiful warm weather, they had a great time outdoors, making the most of the playground, bikes, and sandpit.

28/3/25 This week in the LAN Centre, the children have been busy with exciting learning activities! In Maths, they explored 3D shapes, using Play-Doh to create both 2D and 3D models. In English, they enjoyed the story Supermum, discussing what makes someone a superhero. For Arts and Crafts, they created lovely projects to celebrate Mother’s Day. As part of their learning, they also went on a Tesco shopping trip to buy ingredients and then baked delicious cookies for Mother’s Day. It has been a fun-filled week full of hands-on learning!
21/3/25 The LAN Centre had an exciting week exploring the class story The Very Hungry Caterpillar. The children engaged in storytelling sessions, interactive discussions, and creative activities based on the story, fostering their love for reading and comprehension skills. In Maths, the children focused on recognising and working with the numbers 9 and 10. They compared different sets of objects up to 10, enhancing their number sense and problem-solving abilities through fun and engaging activities. Our class trip to Taplow Adventure Playground was a fantastic experience! The children enjoyed a variety of activities, including soft play, exciting water games, and adventurous climbing challenges. It was a great opportunity for them to develop teamwork skills while having a wonderful time outdoors. In our cooking class this week, the children showcased their baking talents by making delicious caterpillar-themed cupcakes. They followed a step-by-step recipe, measured ingredients, and decorated their cupcakes creatively, reinforcing fine motor skills and teamwork in a fun and tasty way.
14/3/25 We’ve had a lovely week in the LAN Centre! Here’s a little peek at what we’ve been up to: We enjoyed the story Dora's Chicks, learning all about kindness and responsibility through Dora’s adventures. In Maths, the children had fun with sequencing activities, practising how to put things in order and recognising patterns. During our PSHE lesson, we worked on turn-taking skills and used the Zones of Regulation to help everyone understand and manage their feelings. In Cooking this week, the children had a fantastic time making Rice Crispy Cakes and worked together to create a yummy treat!

7/3/25 We've had an exciting week celebrating World Book Week! The children had a fantastic time decorating bookmarks and book covers, diving into captivating stories, and even meeting the author of Supertato!
In Maths, they explored the concepts of long and short, as well as big and small—engaging in hands-on learning and discovery. We hope you enjoyed the photos shared on Tapestry!
Thursday was an adventure as the children took a trip to Tesco to buy ingredients for their cooking lesson. On Friday, they put their skills to the test and made delicious banana milkshakes—what a treat!

28/2/25 The LAN children have enjoyed being back at school! This week, we began reading our class story, No Dinner. The children had a fantastic time role-playing as the wolf and the little old lady from the story.
In Maths, we have been exploring subtraction. The children have been using concrete objects to help solve subtraction problems, building their understanding through hands-on learning.
In Science, we have started learning about seasonal changes and the life cycle of plants. Over the coming weeks, the children will have the exciting opportunity to grow their own plants and observe how they develop.

14/2/25 This week, the children have been captivated by the story Jack and the Beanstalk, engaging in a variety of activities inspired by the tale. In Maths, they have been working on numbers from 0 to 20, grouping objects to find the total. Creativity has been in full swing with lots of Valentine’s Day-themed art, and PE has been super fun and engaging!

7/2/25 We have had a fantastic week in the LAN Centre! The year 1 children thoroughly enjoyed their visit to the Look-Out Centre with their mainstream class. It was a wonderful opportunity for them to explore and learn in an engaging environment.  In Maths, we have been working hard on number bonds within 20, building confidence and fluency in our number skills. In English, the children loved our class story, Zog, and had a great time going on a dragon hunt around the school—it was an exciting adventure!
Phonics is continuing to improve, and the children have particularly enjoyed listening to Bertha the Bus this week. It has been great to see their enthusiasm for learning grow.  We hope you all have a lovely weekend, and we look forward to seeing you next week!
 
31/01/25 This week, the LAN centre has been looking at the story of the Three Little Pigs. They had lots of fun building in sensory elements to the story. 
The children also enjoyed a 'dough disco' this week, which helps to build strength in their little hands by working on their fine motor skills.
On Friday, the children made some vegetable puff pastry bakes with ingredients they had helped to select on a trip to Tesco's the day before.
24/01/25 It’s been an action-packed week in The LAN Centre, filled with fun and learning. We kicked things off with a special visit from our local police station! The children had a blast exploring the police uniforms and pretending to be officers. It was a great way to learn about their important work in the community.
In English, we’ve started reading our new story, Jabari Tries. The children have been excitedly following Jabari's adventures, and they even worked together to build a ramp in the outdoor area, inspired by the story.
Our Art session was a creative highlight this week. The children crafted aeroplanes using junk models, and we held a competition to see whose plane could fly the furthest. It was a close race, with plenty of excitement and cheers!
In Maths, the children have been working hard to find the missing numbers on a number line, building their number skills in a fun and engaging way.

17/01/25 We've had a lovely second week back at school! The children have been working hard and enjoying their learning. In Maths, they’ve continued to explore place value, focusing on representing numbers 0-5 and recognising numbers up to 13. In Science, the children had fun experimenting with push and pull toys, learning about forces in an engaging way.
In English, we’ve been practising our fine motor skills by writing familiar words and short sentences to answer questions about the story All Through The Night. The children have made great progress in both their writing and comprehension!
This week in cooking, the children had a wonderful time baking chocolate chip muffins. We hope they shared some of their delicious treats with you!

10/01/25 What a lovely first week back! The children have settled into school brilliantly, and it's been wonderful to see them all engaged and eager to learn.
In English, we have begun reading the story All Through The Night. We’ve been exploring the different jobs people have during the night, which has sparked some interesting discussions and ideas.
In Maths, we’re focusing on place value. The children have particularly enjoyed finding different ways to make amounts to 7, helping them strengthen their number understanding in a fun and engaging way.
In Phonics, we are continuing to work on the SATPIN sounds and progressing through phase 2, which is supporting the children’s early reading skills.
Next week in Science, the children will be looking at seasonal changes, with a special focus on different forces. We’re excited for this hands-on and interactive topic that will help the children understand the world around them.

20/12/24 The LAN Centre have had a brilliant week! In English, we have continued reading the story ‘Dear Santa’. The children have enjoyed playing pass a parcel with their friends. In Maths, the children have continued learning about 2D and 3D shapes. We enjoyed going on a shape hunt in the classroom and in the playground. This Wednesday, the children had their festive Christmas lunch. We wish you all a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year! See you all in January 2025.
13/12/24 This week in the LAN Centre, we have been getting very festive. The children have enjoyed writing Christmas lists to Santa and have found the story ‘Dear Santa’ to be engaging and funny. In Maths, we have been learning about 2D and 3D shapes. The children particularly enjoyed feeling the shapes inside a bag and guessing what shape they could feel. In English, the children have continued to work on their writing skills. Have a fantastic weekend, and we look forward to seeing you all next week.
06/12/24 This week in the LAN Centre, the children have continued with their amazing learning in Maths, English and Phonics. We had a brilliant time singing in the Christmas Nativity, all the children had a wonderful time seeing you all there to support them. In English, the children have continued forming and writing sentences to answer questions about the story 'Room on The Broom'. In Maths, the children have been learning how to tell the time to o’clock and half past. Have a lovely weekend and we will see you next week.
29/11/24 This week, the children enjoyed listening to the story ‘Room on The Broom’. We have continued to use colourful semantics to answer questions about the story and we are beginning to write keywords relating to the text. In Maths, we have continued to learn number bonds to 10 using manipulatives and engaging in games on the computer. We are all very excited about our school Christmas nativity next week. 22/11/24 We’ve had a busy week in the LAN centre. The children have started practising the songs for the Christmas nativity. In English, we enjoyed reading the story ‘Where’s Lenny?’. In Maths, the children have continued using part whole model and cubes to solve addition and subtraction problems. We had great fun watching our papier-mâché volcanoes erupt. We hope you have a wonderful weekend.
15/11/24 The children had another successful week in the LAN Centre. We started the week continuing listening to our class story 'Mad About Dinosaurs '. In Maths, we have continued using part whole model to work out the number of bonds to 10. The children made amazing progress this week in Maths. In Science, we investigated liquids, solids and gasses. We learnt so many new dances during our Diwali workshop. Have a lovely weekend and we will see you all next week.
08/11/24 What a lovely week we have had back at school. The children have welcomed Miss Punter into the LAN centre. This week, the children were introduced to the story ‘Mad About Dinosaurs’. We have enjoyed creating our very own dinosaurs using arts and crafts. In Maths, the children have continued matching the quantity to the numeral and using the part-whole method. We had another successful trip to Tesco this week, buying ingredients to bake dinosaur biscuits for our Friday cooking session. Have a lovely weekend.
25/10/24 The LAN centre has had an amazing term. This week, we have made some creative art for Halloween. The children really enjoyed creating a Halloween wreath and colouring in pumpkins and spooky creatures. In our science lesson, the children investigated what happens when oil and water come together. Our song in phonics this week was Incy Wincy Spider. Have a fantastic half term and we look forward to seeing you all in November.
18/10/24 What a fantastic week we’ve had in the LAN centre. In English, we have enjoyed listening to our new story of the week ‘Maisy’s Wonderful Weather Book’. The children have enjoyed exploring clothes and accessories that you will wear in the summer and winter months. The children had so much fun on our first class trip to Bocketts Farm on Thursday. We played in the soft play, playground, watched the pig race, had a brilliant ride on the tractor seeing all of the animals and feeding the animals. During whole class Phonics this week, the children have been learning words that start with the sound ‘P’ and singing ‘Pat-A-Cake’. I hope you all have a beautiful weekend, and we will see you all on Monday.
11/10/24 We have had another brilliant week in the LAN Centre. In Maths, we have been looking at money. The children had a fun time using money to buy their favourite toys from the LAN toy shop. In English, we have continued using colourful semantics to answer why, doing what and what questions. Each week, children are gaining more confidence, and they are becoming more excited about completing their learning and exploring new activities. We're all very excited about our school trip next Thursday to Bocketts Farm. Hopefully the weather is better than it’s been this week. Have a lovely weekend!
04/10/24 What a wonderful week in the LAN Centre. The children loved listening to our current story 'The Colour Monster'. We enjoyed talking about what can make us sad, happy, excited and angry. We hope you all enjoyed the monsters that we made during our creative lesson. In Science, we have been investigating heavy and light objects using weighing scales. 20/09/24 This week, the children have had another amazing week. We continued listening to the story 'A Superpower Like Mine'. The children really enjoyed becoming superheroes. We have been talking about feelings and emotions in our PSHE lessons. The children took turns telling an adult things that make them happy and sad. This week in our cooking lesson, the children baked chocolate chip shortbread biscuits. Have a lovely weekend!
13/09/24 This week the children have enjoyed listening to the story 'A Superpower Like Mine'. We have pretended to be superheroes this week, both in and out of the classroom. In Maths this week, we have been exploring colours and what would happen if we mixed 2 or 3 colours together. We had our first shopping trip to Tesco this Thursday; I am proud to say that we had a brilliant time. The children enjoyed making pitta pizzas in our weekly cooking lesson. Next week, we will continue with the story 'A Superpower Like Mine' and will be exploring different materials and properties in our science lesson. 06/09/24 What a wonderful first week back at the LAN centre. The children have come into school ready to learn, which has been a joy to see. Over the past few days, we have been going over the class and school rules. The children enjoyed listening to stories and playing and taking turns at games with their peers. Next week, we will be starting our class story 'A Superpower Like Mine'. I hope you all have a wonderful weekend, and we look forward to seeing you all next week.
