Year 4 have had another tree-mendous week of learning, with plenty of opportunities to explore, investigate and get creative! In Science, we headed outside for a leaf hunt around the playground, carefully observing the leaves we found and using their features to identify which trees they had come from. In Writing, we continued our work on Mouse Bird Snake Wolf by stepping into the shoes of Little Ben. The children explored how he might have been feeling as the mouse, bird and snake were created before using these ideas to write diary entries from his perspective. In Geography, we have been exploring biomes from around the world and collecting fascinating facts about the plants, animals and climates found within them. Meanwhile, in Maths, we have been working incredibly hard on our times tables as we continue to build speed, accuracy and confidence in preparation for the Multiplication Tables Check (MTC). Year 4 have had another fantastic week, packed with mythical monsters, mysterious minibeasts and even a trip back to Ancient Rome. In English, our imaginations have been running wild as the children designed their very own mythical creatures before writing detailed encyclopaedia entries about them. From unusual habitats and peculiar diets to extraordinary appearances and abilities, the children worked hard to use precise vocabulary and organise their ideas into informative non-fiction writing. In Maths, we have taken on the challenge of Roman numerals, learning how to read and write numbers using this ancient number system. Finally, in Science, we headed outside on a minibeast hunt to put our classification skills into action. The children searched carefully for some of the tiny creatures that call our school grounds home and thought about the characteristics we could use to identify and group them. Year 4 have had another fantastic week of learning. In English, our learning has been inspired by Mouse Bird Snake Wolf. After exploring vocabulary and gathering information, the children wrote their very own encyclopaedia entries about mice. They worked hard to organise their information clearly and use interesting vocabulary to create informative pieces of non-fiction writing. In Science, we have been learning how scientists classify living things and, importantly, how to ask useful scientific questions to help us sort animals and plants into different groups.Meanwhile, in Geography, we have been travelling around the world without even leaving the classroom as we explored climate zones. The children learned why different parts of the world experience different climates and began identifying some of the major climate zones across our planet. Well done, Year 4, for another fantastic week of thoughtful questions, brilliant writing and enthusiastic learning! |

Year 4 have had another wonderful week. Our reading adventures are well underway. We have continued exploring the imaginative world of Mouse Bird Snake Wolf, where we created a public service announcement for the people of Earth. We began to read our new class text. The Wild Robot where we were introduced to Roz and used our inferencing skills to empathise with her as we learnt how she became stranded on her island. In Maths, we have been developing our understanding of place value, exploring numbers into the thousands and looking carefully at the value of each digit. Finally, in Art we began learning about textiles and weaving. We learnt how to carefully thread a loom ready to create our own woven designs. Another fantastic week, Year 4 - well done for all your hard work! |

Although our first week was only a short one, we have certainly managed to pack plenty in and have made a brilliant start to the new school year. The children have been busy settling into the new rhythms and routines of Year 4, getting to know their new classroom and making it feel like their own. They created personalised items to decorate our learning space, helping to make our classroom a welcoming place where everyone feels they belong. We have also begun reading our new class text, Mouse Bird Snake Wolf, and the children are already intrigued by the unusual world and characters within the story. Inspired by the book, we headed into our Forest School area, where the children used natural materials they could find to create their very own animals. We have been so impressed by how enthusiastically the children have embraced their first two days and are looking forward to a fantastic year of learning, laughter and new adventures together.
