What we have been learning about
25/9/26 It has been a wonderful week in Year 1! The children wowed us all with their amazing writing as they created their own instructions for making a fruit salad, linking beautifully to our text, Handa’s Surprise.In Geography, we have been learning about maps and how they are used. The children enjoyed putting their learning into practice by creating their own classroom maps.
We also became animal detectives, carefully looking at different animals and the patterns we could spot. The children explored using shading techniques to create their own interesting patterns and textures.We are so proud of all their hard work and enthusiasm this week. Have a lovely weekend, everyone!

It has been a lovely week in Year 1, and the children have thoroughly enjoyed all of our learning experiences.

This week, Year 1 were the first class to begin their outdoor enrichment sessions in the Nature Nook. The children absolutely loved taking part, and it was wonderful to see their enthusiasm and excitement.
In our writing lessons, we have been learning how to use question marks correctly. The children enjoyed thinking of questions they could ask Handa and using these questions when writing a letter to her.

In PE, we have been developing our sending and returning skills, with a particular focus on rolling and throwing.

It’s been another very positive week in Year 1, and the children have had a wonderful time learning together!
In Writing, we have been learning about adjectives and using them to describe the setting from Handa’s Surprise. It was so lovely to hear all the children’s amazing ideas and to see them remembering to use the finger spacers that we made last week. We are very proud of the care they are beginning to take with their writing! On Wednesday, the children thoroughly enjoyed our Art lesson, where we explored the work of artist Deborah Roberts. We discussed her artwork and then explored her college skills. The children were really enthusiastic and enjoyed getting creative with their own ideas.

It has been a lovely week, and we hope everyone has a wonderful and restful weekend!
4/9/26 It has been a wonderful few days settling into life in Year 1! The children have really enjoyed getting to know their new environment and exploring everything it has to offer. They were especially excited to discover the new construction and potion stations outside. In our writing, we have been learning all about finger spaces. The children even made their own finger spaces to help them remember to leave spaces between their words! I hope everyone has a restful and enjoyable weekend. I look forward to lots more adventures and learning together next week!
